Drawing, Composition and Color Study

An introductory class is offered on October 7.
Tuition: $190
Note: For those who cannot attend all 6 consecutive classes, 2 make-up classes are scheduled following the 6 weeks. For those who have come to all 6 classes, you are welcome to continue for $15 per class.
Location: Lynchburg (The Art Box Classroom)
This class will include demonstrations on technique, composition, and color study using a variety of pencils, charcoal, papers, and an introduction into using soft pastels. You will be learning art terminology used to discuss art and given plenty of printed information showing words used to discuss art, types of compositions, and how to use pencils for drawing, sketching, and thumbnails (small images); and finally, studying color application using soft pastels.
Materials required:
pencils, drawing paper, a sketchbook and a folder that will hold a minimum of 8-1/2” x 11” paper.
Note: An introductory class will be on October 7. Chris will discuss materials and methods. This class will use various papers, pencils and other drawing instruments.
The cost for the introductory class is $15. Previous students are welcome to attend. The 6 official classes will begin on October 14.

Encaustic and Mixed Media Painting with Christine Rooney

Note: For those who cannot make all 6 consecutive classes, 2 make-up session are scheduled after the 6 weeks. For those who have attended all 6 sessions, you may continue for $15 per session.
Location: Lynchburg (The Art Box classroom)
This class is for students who want to experiment with various mediums. Previous experience using soft pastels, oils, watercolor, cold and hot waxes, drawing, or printing is encouraged. There is a strong emphasis on encaustic painting which is an ancient process of painting with molten beeswax, resin and pigments. We will be using heated surfaces, heat guns, and small blow torches. Students should understand basic composition and color theory since they are expected to work independently on their own compositions. The class includes demonstrations, discussions, and emphasis on safety.
Note: In the introductory class Chris will be discussing materials we will be using. Official classes begin on October 15. The cost of the introductory class is $15.

Beginner Watercolors with Purnell Pettyjohn

This is an introduction to watercolors. The class will learn how to paint washes, mix various grays and green combinations. Softening edges and painting texture will be addressed during this session. Each week, students will receive a photo from Purnell. Students will draw the subject matter at home. After a class demo of that particular photo, students will paint.
