THE
PAPER LOUNGE NOW OPEN IN CHARLOTTESVILLE!
We have collected so many gorgeous
decorative papers that we had to remodel to make room for them all.
The result is The Paper Lounge, home to fabulous papers from all
over the world, Brookfield and Arturo Stationery, and art books.
There is room to sketch out ideas or flip through books and magazines
while you're waiting for inspiration to hit.
The Art Box is now carrying a rotating stock of hand silkscreened
Japanese Yuzen prints. Vibrant colors and patterns ranging from
intricate florals to bold geometric designs grace these outstanding
sheets. Patterns borrowed from kimono textile designs, and orginally
used for paper dolls, are the perfect addition to any project.
These papers really come alive when lit from behind, so they make
absolutely stunning lampshades. In addition to patterned prints,
we have a limited number of Sogara Yuzen sheets. These feature
a single, continuous scene, perfectly aligned and composed. Papers
this beautiful are really art in their own right, and are worthy
of a spectacular frame treatment from Creative Framing.

From the very ancient to the very modern, The Art Box is also
stocking many synthetic papers. Made from various polymers, synthetic
papers are durable, interesting and can be collaged right in with
oil based media. Mokuba is woven to feel like fabric, while Delhi
is made from recycled plastic bags collected from the streets
of Delhi! Perfect for architects, graphic designers, and artists
who want to give their work a contemporary feel.
The Paper Lounge has also allowed us to expand lines of our customers
favorite papers: airy, open laces in all sorts of patterns and
colors, vibrant Thai lokta sheets in solid colors and interesting
prints, and Italian prints and French marbles.
The question we hear again
and again from customers romanced by our paper wall is, "So, what
can I do with all those beautiful papers?" The answer: just about
anything! Our papers have been used for collage in media including
oil, acrylic, watercolor, and encaustic, book arts, decoupage,
wedding invitations, lampshades, furniture, wallpaper, window
treatments...their uses are really only limited by your imagination!
Starting in Spring 2006, we will be offering workshops
to teach some basic papercrafting skills on which to build. Check
back soon or stop by the shop for details and to reserve your
spot! Workshops in other media are soon to follow.
We hope to see you soon!
